Birth Doula
At Mia Bella Mamma our doulas firmly believe that support during birth is essential for a satisfying birth experience, and no woman should be denied support due to marital status, cultural background or socioeconomic circumstances. All of our doulas are passionate birth professionals and moms themselves. Whatever your dream birth may look like, we have a doula who will fit in with your ideas and beliefs perfectly.
Whether you are planning a home or hospital birth, we will be honoured to support you. Not sure what type of prenatal care you want yet? Join one of our Home Birth vs. Hospital Birth Workshops where we will guide you through the realities of both, and provide you with ther information you need to make the right choice for yourself.
Our goal as your labour doula is to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to you before, during, and after the birth of your baby. We will not judge or question your choices regarding care, intervention, or pain relief. Our job is support you in your choices, and encourage and empower you with the knowledge you need to make those choices so you can be your own advocate during your birth.
We will meet twice before your due date to discuss your ideas and goals for your birth. During those meetings we can work on a birth plan, and chat about different relaxation methods to decide what types of approaches will work best for you and your partner.
During your labour your doula will be with you from whenever you feel you need her, until after the birth of your baby. She will be your constant source of support. If your partner is participating in your labour and delivery, her presence will complement theirs, and help to provide encouragement and ideas to help keep you focussed and comfortable.
Once your baby is born, your doula will stay with you for up to 2 hours postpartum, to make sure you are comfortable and help with breastfeeding. Once she is certain you are settled comfortably and your immediate needs are taken care of, she will leave you and your new family alone for some essential bonding time. Your doula will visit you at home once more, usually within the first week. At this time she will ensure that you have settled in at home, answer any questions you may have, and assist with breastfeeding if necessary. She will bring with her a list of resources in your community for new parents.
Postpartum Support is also available should you decide you would like more follow up care or assistance in the first several weeks after your baby's birth.
